About Us
East Fork State Park Volunteer Mounted Search and Rescue
Glad you’ve found our corner of the web. We’re a small organization with a big name and a bigger mission near Cincinnati in South West Ohio.
Founded in 1994 as a way to use equine skills to support the local community, we’ve since grown to an active membership base that averages 40 members. Local police agencies use our services several times each year.
Our team responds to searches only at the request of law enforcement agencies and we operate at their pleasure.
Why Mounted Search and Rescue?
- A horse can move more quickly and further than a searcher on foot. This enables us to potentially reach a victim quicker than non-mounted rescuers.
- Horses can transport more gear than people can.
- Horses are quieter and ATVs, so we can hear people calling out for help.
- Horses provide us with a tremendous field of vision. If you’re on the ground you can’t see nearly as far as you can when mounted on top of a horse.
Don’t Ride? We still need members to man the command post and support the riders!
